DERRICK PEEVY, JR.
ABOUT ME
I am a native of Birmingham, Alabama, where the values of community engagement and public service were instilled in me by both my immediate and extended family. From a young age, the principles of public service and dedication to hard work were key lessons that I took to heart.
In 2020, I achieved a significant milestone by graduating from Tennessee State University with a Bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Science. My time during the undergraduate program was pivotal; I delved into the critical roles that the family unit, interpersonal relationships, goal setting, and health wellness play in personal development.
Armed with these insights, I pursued a greater scale of impact by enrolling in Graduate School at Auburn University. My focus shifted from individual to community development, and I took an active role in this new arena by serving as the Vice President of the Student Planning Association at Auburn University during the 2020-2021 academic year. I have since completed my studies in the Master of Community Planning program, graduating in May 2022.
Currently, I am channeling this rich educational background into my role as an Associate Planner for Local Programs at the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, where I continue to apply and expand my understanding of community development and public service.
